SUB Grand Opening set for Jan. 23
The University of Louisiana at Monroe will host a celebration of its newly-renovated Student Union Building (SUB) and Student Center Jan. 23 at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
As part of the grand opening, a 25-year time capsule containing archives from ULM’s history and 75th anniversary year will be dedicated to the SUB. The artifacts will be on display at the Grand Opening. The time capsule, which will be housed in the SUB, will be opened during ULM’s 100th anniversary in 2031.
The SUB and Student Center will become a focal point for student-orientated activities.
The first floor of the SUB contains a commuter and non-traditional student lounge equipped with lockers, a faculty lounge that can also be used for private dining, wireless Internet access throughout the building, and a variety of cuisine choices in the Food Court, including Subway, Java City, Chick-fil-A and Freshen’s.
The second floor of the SUB contains a stage and large ballroom with a capacity for approximately 600 people.
The Student Center, which houses the offices of Student Life and Leadership, also contains smart media rooms and meeting rooms for Recognized Students Organizations. The SUB and Student Center will provide Campus Activities Board and Student Government Association with ample space to host indoor and outdoor events, in addition to regularly scheduled meetings.
Both buildings officially open Jan. 16.
