Walgreens donates $50,000 to College of Pharmacy
The ULM College of Pharmacy received a $50,000 check from Walgreens drugstore chain Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bienville Building, located at 1800 Bienville Dr.
The donation will fund equipment in the College of Pharmacy's new Pharmacy Care Laboratory.
Plans for the lab include a simulated community pharmacy that will allow students to practice patient counseling methodologies, inventory control and personnel management, an assessment and education area, hospital IV preparation room, mock hospital room with computerized simulated patients, and a group demonstration area.
Financial support, such as the donation from Walgreens, is crucial, said College of Pharmacy Dean Lamar Pritchard.
"We truly expect that our curricular and facility improvements will greatly enhance the abilities of our students upon graduation. This will translate into enhanced pharmaceutical care for the citizens of Louisiana and beyond."
ULM President James Cofer highlighted an over 20 percent philanthropic giving increase, and the benefits this in turn bestows to the students.
“It’s been a very good year at ULM, particularly for the College of Pharmacy. This kind of generous donation helps to make ULM’s pharmacy program one of the best in the nation.”
