Faculty member directs Taming of the Shrew
C. Turner Steckline, interim communications department chair, will continue to direct “Taming of the Shrew” for YoungTroupe’s Center for the Performing Arts Saturdays, Feb. 10 and 17 at 2:00 and 5:00 p.m.
Two performances are also scheduled each day for area secondary schools Feb. 9, 15, and 16.
“We’ve taken the Shakespeare classic comedy, and set it in the year 3007, on board the space ship, ‘Explora Universa,’” said Steckline. “It’s kind of a ‘Space Cowboys/Star Wars’ approach, mixed with Motown music and choreography to beat the band.”
Steckline will judge the annual Shakespeare Competition amongst secondary school students Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church. This will be Steckline’s third, non-consecutive occasion to perform the honor. Students compete for three judges, and the winner competes nationally.
