Jordan to retire from ULM Dec. 31; “Dr. Bubba” will be missed

Dr. Glenn Jordan, professor of history and curator of Special Collections and Archives at the ULM Library, will retire from the university Monday, Dec. 31, enriching his work environment and colleagues with a lifetime of service.

Megan Lowe, a reference librarian at ULM, agrees. “He has been a wonderful encouragement to me since I came here in 2003, is a brilliant and entertaining colleague, and is a very agreeable and good-hearted human being all around. I will definitely miss ‘Dr. Bubba.’”

Jordan began as curator of Special Collections in 1984. While in this position, Jordan has also served as the university’s records officer. In addition, he has regularly spoken to groups on the history of the region and solicited books and manuscript donations about northeast Louisiana.

Previously in his career, he served as project talent search director at ULM from 1982 – 1984, as the Oklahoma Historical Society executive director from 1979 – 1981, as the Oklahoma Department of Libraries chief archivist from 1977 – 1978, and worked with the Western History Collection at the University of Oklahoma from 1974 – 1977.

His publications include: “Bibliography [annotated] of Louisiana Parish History” (1999), and “Let There be Light: A History of Louisiana Freemasonry, 1763-1989” (1990).

Jordan’s extensive education consists of a Ph.D. in American history (1982) and a master’s of library science (1974), both from the University of Oklahoma, and a master’s in American history (1968) and a bachelor’s degree in American history and political science (1966), both from Louisiana Tech University.
