ULM art faculty and alumni participate in Elvis Presley art exhibit; on view through Feb. 24
The Division of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is well represented at the Elvis Invitational Exhibition, currently on view at the Masur Museum of Art (1400 South Grand St.).
This exhibition features individual interpretations of Elvis Presley art images created by area artists. The primary exhibition on display at the Masur is "Elvis: on his own in Shreveport," a photo documentary of the young Elvis as he appeared on the Louisiana Hayride show during the 50's; with the "Elvis Invitational" appearing as an auxiliary entity.
ULM faculty members in this collection are represented by a color digital photograph of Elvis signage by Eugene Hayes, assistant professor of photography; a silverprint photograph of an Elvis fan posed by a painting on velvet of the King by Camille Jungman, instructor of art history; an Elvis watercolor portrait by Joni Noble, assistant professor in art education; and an acrylic painting of a group of Elvis fans at Graceland by Robert Ward, professor of painting.
Alumni from ULM Art are represented by an acrylic portrait by Adam Davenport, a portrait lithographic original print by Doyle Jeter, an acrylic portrait by Stephanie Jordan, a mosaic portrait by Staci Mendaries, a graphite and oil pastel drawing of a montage of Elvis mouths juxtaposed with his song titles by Linda Ward, and an acrylic landscape of the Tallulah "Elvis Tree" by Edmund Williamson.
Both pop icon theme exhibitions will be on view through Feb. 24, 2008.
The Masur Museum of Art is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, and from 2 - 5 pm on Friday through Sunday. For more information about the museum, call: (318) 329-2237.
