Williamson participates in child development training, state curriculum rewrites
Emily Williamson, director of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Child Development Center, and Janie Humphries, the McGehee Early Childhood Professor from Louisiana Tech, conducted a three-day presentation called "Achieving CDA" at the Louisiana Department of Education's Summer Institute in New Orleans.
This session was for high school Family and Consumer Science teachers scheduled to learn Early Childhood Education I and II in their high school curriculum.
Williamson and Melissa Matthews, infant/toddler teacher at the ULM Child Development Center, also attended the weeklong University of North Carolina Summer Early Childhood Institute; 75 participants are selected from all over the world each year.
Williamson attended classes on the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale with authors Richard Clifford and Debby Cryer. Matthews attended classed on the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale with authors Thelma Harms and Cathy Riley. Williamson attended the institute last year and was trained in the ECERS-R.
She has been selected by the Louisiana Department of Education to coordinate the rewrite team for the Louisiana Comprehensive Preschool Curriculum, currently being rewritten to be more integrated, use more language strategies, and be more user-friendly. Like the original version, this revised curriculum will be correlated to the Louisiana Department of Education's Grade Level Expectations. The completion date is scheduled for January 2008 when the rewrite teams' draft will be released to teachers across the state.
