SBDC to offer two home-based business workshops; beginning Sept. 18
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Small Business Development Center will
provide two home-based business workshops, one on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and the
other on Thursday, Sept. 20.
The "Home-Based Business Tax Issues" workshop will occur on Sept. 18 from 6 8 p.m. in the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105, with a
participation fee of $10.
The Internet and E-commerce is sparking the growth of home-based businesses.
This workshop will cover basic federal tax responsibilities of home-based
business owners, deductions for business use of your home, business use of
your vehicle when you work from home, business use of your home computer and
special record keeping issues. The workshop will be presented by a member of
the Louisiana Society of Enrolled Agents who has volunteered his/her time
and is enrolled to practice before the IRS.
The "Starting a Home-Based Business" workshop will occur Sept. 20 from 6 8
p.m. in the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105, with a participation
fee of $10.
Starting a business at home can lead to a successful start up venture. There
are several issues that entrepreneurs should consider before opening a
home-based business. Topics may include: types of businesses, legality,
developing an image, business attitude, time management, family issues,
advantages and disadvantages, the home business site, and planning for a
home based business.
These opportunities are part of the LSBDC¹s continuing education program, as
it provides quality, no-fee, confidential, one-on-one counseling services to
potential and existing business owners; provides no-fee management and
technical assistance services by appointment; conducts workshops and
seminars to help small business people become better managers and to keep
them informed about current events and changing trends in today¹s business
world; and maintains a resource library which includes statistical data,
census figures, SBA publications, and a variety of other information.
