7th annual Student Research Symposium winners announced

Winners of the 7th Annual Student Research Symposium at ULM were announced at an awards ceremony held April 18 in the Student Union Building on campus.

The Student Research Symposium showcases research conducted by ULM undergraduates and graduate students. Researchers were required to conceptualize a research question, work with a faculty mentor to address the question, design a research method, identify the subjects, correctly and objectively collect data, analyze it, reach conclusions and make recommendations.

Student researchers presented their work either by Presentation Poster or by a Platform Presentation in which they read their research aloud to the audience. In both cases, student researchers were expected to answer questions from judges who have credentials in the student’s research field.

With completion of the 7th Research Symposium, this venue has been able to provide a platform for 1,800 student researchers to present their unique research.

The winners are:

College of Education and Human Development, graduate level:

• 1st place: High Neuroticism Predicts Elevated Psychoticism in Response to Stress by Courtney Bordelon and Nichole Renee Hebert; Dr. Jack Palmer; faculty advisor.
  
  
• 2nd place: Speed of Injury Recovery of Collegiate Athletes with the use of the VST Myodynamic Device – A Preliminary Investigation by Kimberly Martin; Dr. Lisa Colvin, faculty advisor.
  
  
• 3rd place: Cool Shirt TM Use as an Ergogenic Aid for Elite Distance Runners Training in North Louisiana: A Preliminary Investigation by Matt Nipper; Dr. Lisa Colvin, faculty advisor.
  
  
• Honorable Mention: The Utility of Selected Rorschach Variables and MMPI Indices as Discriminates of Criminality by Rachel Van Thomma; Dr. Ross Keiser; faculty advisor.

College of Education and Human Development, undergraduate level:

• 1st place: Chronic Procrastination as a Function of Attention Deficient Hyperactivity by Kasi McPherson; Dr. William McCown, faculty advisor.
• 2nd place: “Blending”: Blending Traditional Teacher Methods with Online Course Content by Kriss Hollis; Dr. Michael Beutner, faculty adviser.
• 3rd place: Teacher Authored Multimedia Instructional Content by Ashley Spillers; Dr. Michael Beutner, faculty adviser.

College of Business Administration, undergraduate level poster presentation:

• An Assessment of Near-Synchronous Communication Utility and its Influence on Online Purchase Intentions in a B2C Marketplace by Tettra Davis (Emerging Scholar); Dr. Allen Johnston, mentor.
