Robert Levy to speak at ULM commencement May 19

District attorney Robert Levy will speak at the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s 2007 Spring Commencement Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Levy achieved a bachelor’s degree in science from Nicholls State University in 1970. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University School of Law in 1974.

District attorney for the Third Judicial Court since 1991, Levy is also a member of the Louisiana Board of Regents since 2001 and serves as chairman of its Sponsored Programs Division.

He maintains a number of important civic positions, including: member and past president of the Lincoln Parish Bar Association, member and past president of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, member of the National District Attorneys Association, member of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, member of Louisiana Medal of Honor Committee, member of the North Louisiana Crime Lab Commission, member of the Governor’s DNA Task Force, member and past director of the Ruston Kiwanis Club, and chairman and founder of both the Pine Hills Child Advocacy Center, Inc. and the Pine Hills Sexual Assault Center.

Levy is an adjunct professor of business law and criminal justice at Louisiana Tech University. He is also a member of Community Trust Bank’s Board of Directors and holds the position of secretary for the Council for a Better Louisiana’s (CABL) Board of Directors. He serves of counsel to the law firm of Hudson, Potts and Bernstein.

He has earned several honors, including: Lawman of the Year in 2004 from the Ruston Sunrise Kiwanis Club, Louisiana District Attorney of the Year in 2002 from Victims and Citizens Against Crime, and Boss of the Year in 1993 from the American Business Women’s Association, Ruston Chapter.

During his career, Levy also served as the mayor of the town of Vienna from 1979 – 1990.

He is married to Elaine Guy Levy and has three children: Melanie, Jennifer and Clair.
