Wind Ensemble to present final spring concert April 27
The ULM Wind Ensemble will present their final concert of the spring semester Friday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium. There is no admission charge for this concert.
The repertoire selected for this concert includes something for everyone. Two Sousa marches are programmed: “George Washington Bicentennial” and “The Glory of The Yankee Navy.”
Three orchestral transcriptions are also programmed. The first is the final movement of Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 5.” This transcription was completed by Jay Bocook, a ULM graduate who is director of athletic bands at Furman University and musical arranger for eight-time Drum Corps International Champion, the Cadets of Bergen County.
The second transcription is the finale from Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 3” and was completed by Jimmie Howard Reynolds, former director of bands at Louisiana Tech University.
The third transcription is from “Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith,” composed by John Williams and transcribed for concert band by Robert W. Smith.
