Canaday featured at April College of Pharmacy Convocation
Bruce R. Canaday, immediate past-president of the American Pharmacists Association, was the honored speaker at this month’s ULM College of Pharmacy Convocation Thursday, April 19 at 12 p.m. in the Bienville Building.
Canady addressed pharmacy students concerning the profession of pharmacy and its changing role. “Pharmacy is changing from a dispensing role to a more service-oriented profession, and we can incorporate that service through medication therapy management,” said Canady.
He believes that by monitoring drug therapy, dosages and interactions that pharmacists can help patients get the maximum benefit from their medications.
Canady received his bachelor’s of science degree in pharmacy from Purdue University and his Pharm.D. from the University of Tennessee. He is a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and served as president and chair of the board in 1998-1999. He also served three terms as chairman of the ASHP House of Delegates as well as serving on the Board of Directors in that capacity. He is a fellow of the American Pharmacists Association through the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management and served as the chairman of the Academy's Clinical/Pharmacotherapy Section. He served on the APhA Board of Trustees 2002-2005 and is currently the immediate past president, having handed over the position of president at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition this past March in Atlanta, Ga.
