Student presents Chautauqua Nexus on video games Sept. 25
Adam Breitenbach, a ULM student, will present “Killing Spree: A Sharp Look at Video Game Violence,” as part of the Chautauqua Nexus series on Sept. 25 at 7:15 p.m. in room 134 of the Airway Sciences building at ULM.
Video games have come a long way from the days of the Atari 2600, but that evolution has not been without controversy, Breitenbach said. “I will talk about the history of the video game, from 1958’s ‘Tennis for Two’ on the oscilloscope (old TV screen used to display data), to today's and tomorrow's consoles,” he said.
“I will also point out some of the controversial issues surrounding the video game world, giving a little background into the Entertainment Software Rating Board, how it came to be, what it does, and how it does it. I’ll also discuss reactions to that controversy from parents, politicians, religious groups, and other organizations, and how the gamers themselves are beginning to develop their own camp in this ongoing battle.”
Nexus presentations are free, informal and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend. ULM FRYS students are encouraged to attend.
All events are held at 7:15 p.m. in room 134 of the Airways Sciences building, located on the corner of Northeast Avenue and Filhiol.
