Student newspaper named The Hawkeye
The Pow Wow, ULM's student newspaper, has a new name — The Hawkeye.
The staff at the Pow Wow conducted an online poll that gave voters three name suggestions, which were submitted by past Pow Wow editors: The Hawkeye (which won the majority vote), The Louisianian and The Telegram.
The student newspaper staff felt like changing the newspaper's name was a great way to embrace the new Warhawk mascot, said Stephanie Williams, editor-in-chief. In addition to the name change, the staff has also revamped the newspaper's overall design.
"We talked it over as a staff. We wanted to do what was best for the university, and with the new mascot, we felt like it was the best thing to do. We've worked really hard on the new look, and we're proud of it."
While the newspaper has a new name and a new look, its mission, to represent and promote the university well, remains the same, Williams said.
