ULM Speech Team wins in Texas
The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Speech and Debate Forum began its 2006-2007 season by winning three of four events at the Tarrant County College Speech Tournament Oct. 7 - 8 in Hurst, Texas.
The tournament featured competitors representing colleges and universities from Texas, Louisiana and Kansas.
The ULM team was led by freshman Mallory Bonnette, who earned honors as the top overall speaker at the tournament. Bonnette also earned the tournament championship in prose interpretation and teamed with freshman Josh Mohon to earn the tournament championship in duo interpretation. Mohon also earned a second place finish in poetry interpretation. The tournament also featured the debut performance of Carl O’Banion, who earned the tournament championship in after dinner speaking.
Head coach Bob Alexander said, “I think this sets the tone for our season. Each student representing ULM this weekend was in their first competition for our program, yet they have stepped in to continue the winning tradition of the ULM Speech & Debate Team. I am tremendously proud of their performance and am looking forward to another productive season.”
The ULM Speech and Debate Forum is open to any student, and no prior experience is required. If interested in finding out more about the team, contact Alexander at 318-342-1462.
