ULM 2006 Prep Staff announced
The University of Louisiana at Monroe announced the selection of 16 students to serve on the 2006 Preview Registration Environment Program (PREP) Staff.
PREP Staff is an elite group of student leaders who have excelled in theirleadership, academic achievement and enthusiasm for ULM. The mission of PREP is to introduce academic, social and cultural aspects of their university and to promote a sense of dedication and pride among incoming students, while making them feel an important part of the ULM family.
Students on the PREP Staff must go through an application and interview process prior to their selection. Those chosen for PREP Staff are required to take an upper level counseling class prior to assuming their duties. PREP Staff members receive both a cash payment and room and board for the summer term.
The PREP Staff recently traveled to the University of Alabama in March toattend the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) and participated in a song and skit competition with 65 other universities. SROW is an annual conference for the PREP Staff and is an opportunity for them to learn more about the orientation process by networking with orientation leaders from other universities.
During the summer term, these students work with incoming freshmen during several two-day PREP sessions. The PREP Staff plays an important role in helping new students adjust to college life by acquainting new students with the requirements and expectations of the university and introduce students to the many campus resources. Staffers also guide students through academic planning and registration and help provide an opportunity for interaction with faculty, staff and other students.
The PREP Staff encourages peer interaction and networking among students, promote a strong connection to the history, traditions and spirit of the university, and promote the importance of the first-year experience. Staff members also provide a seamless learning environment between academics and student life.
