ULM student body to select Warhawk name

Due to the widespread interest in naming ULM’s Warhawk, the Student Government Association selected five finalists from the submissions and will ask the student body to vote for their favorite during an online election the week of Aug. 28.

At Thursday’s meeting, the SGA selected five finalists: Ace, Curtiss, General, Flash and Gunner.

To date, SGA has received over 625 e-mails from the ULM family—students, faculty, alumni and community members—with name suggestions. Polling began July 6.

The new sideline mascot and its name will be unveiled in late August.

SGA had planned to choose the Warhawk’s name at Thursday’s meeting, but due to the overwhelming interest, the senators decided to encourage more student participation through an online election.

“The community’s interest in naming the Warhawk inspired the SGA,” said President Rob Carroll.

SGA will announce details concerning the online election soon.
