KEDM–FM drive continues to benefit musicians
KEDM-FM, a public radio station housed at ULM, continues to collect gently used musical instruments and music equipment to aid musicians affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They will accept donations until July 24.
A special day for collecting instruments will be at Enoch’s Pub and Café on Saturday, July 15 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Doyle Jeter of Enoch’s will prepare jambalaya and red beans and rice. Proceeds from the sale of the food will go to KEDM-FM. Area musicians will be performing throughout the day, including Kenny Bill Stinson and Delta Blue.
“Everyone from school band students, churches, schools and professional musicians lost their instruments during the storm, so we thought this would be a great way to help out,” KEDM Development Director Susan Allain said. “We have received quite a few, but we know we can get more before the deadline. A lot of folks have a musical instrument just sitting in the closet of their home that isn’t used anymore. We would encourage everyone to come to Enoch’s this Saturday and donate those unused instruments to our drive.”
KEDM has partnered with Matt’s Music to collect as many instruments as possible, which will then be given to the Public Radio Development Exchange during its annual conference in New Orleans. The Exchange will donate these and other instruments brought by public radio stations nationwide to the Tipitina’s Foundation in New Orleans, a nonprofit organization working to rebuild the music community there.
Instruments may be donated during business hours at KEDM’s office, 225 Stubbs Hall on ULM’s campus.
