ULM announces Summer Commencement speaker
Louis Nabors, associate professor of voice at ULM, will speak at ULM's Summer Commencement at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Nabors looks forward to his upcoming speech.
"I feel honored. It's one thing to speak to a classroom full of students, but quite another to speak to a multitude of students who are now embarking on their quest to do good in the world of today," he said.
Nabors, who received a bachelor of music from Southern University and a master of music from Prairie View A&M University, began teaching at ULM in 1973. In addition to teaching voice, Nabors trains the Interdenominational Ensemble, ULM's gospel group.
He has performed with the Arizona Opera Company, Houston Grand Opera, and Los Angeles Opera. He is currently on the Shreveport Opera Company roster.
Nabors has performed as a soloist and as a recitalist throughout the country and in Europe and is a board member and performer with the Houston Ebony Opera Guild. Nabors also frequently judges at state and regional NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competitions.
Next week Nabors will serve as a visiting professor and advisor at the Amalfi Coast Music and Arts Festival in Vietri sul Mare, Italy.
