ULM Welcomes Laura Harris as New Director of Media Relations
Dr. Don Skelton, vice president for University Advancement and External Affairs at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Harris as director of Media Relations.
Harris became a ULM employee in September of 2005, serving as assistant director of Publications and as interim communications officer before being offered this new position.
“I’m very appreciative of this challenging and exciting professional opportunity, and I look forward to being involved in our university’s continuing growth and development in as many ways as possible,” Harris said.
Harris came to Monroe and ULM from South Dakota, where she gained experience as a reporter for the Rapid City Journal, a daily newspaper, and as the editor of the Hill City Prevailer-News, a weekly newspaper. Before that, she was a reporter intern at Lillie News in North St. Paul, Minnesota.
Harris received several honors while serving in those earlier positions, including being named Outstanding Young Journalist of 2003 by the South Dakota Newspaper Association and being awarded First Place Honors for Best Photo Series in 2004.
Harris received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism with minors in Women's Studies and German Studies from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. In addition to her studies at SDSU, Harris was also the Editor-In-Chief of The SDSU Collegian.
