The School of Visual and Performing Arts Presents Varied Artistic Events
The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) has plenty to offer the cultural enthusiast this semester.
On Monday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Biedenharn Recital Hall, VAPA and the Division of Music will present an Alumni-Faculty Concert in Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of ULM featuring Jana Young, soprano; William Nichols, clarinet; and Russell Young, piano.
Audience members will hear selections by Bellini, Mozart and other composers. Admission is free.
On Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Bamboula 2000, a music and dance experience with universal appeal, will appear at ULM’s Biedenharn Recital Hall. Founded in 1994, Bamboula 2000 celebrates the rich cultural contributions of Congo Square in New Orleans. The original music of the group combines traditional West African rhythms, reggae, New Orleans, bamboula/secondlines, contemporary jazz, urban styles and funk.
Tickets are $10 for the general public. ULM students, faculty and staff will attend free of charge with I.D.
ULM TheatreWorks, in conjunction with the ULM Division of Music, will present the comic opera "The Magic Flute" by W. A. Mozart Feb. 16-17, beginning at 7:30 p.m. each evening in Brown Theatre. There will also be matinee showings on Feb. 18 and 19 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors and children and are free for ULM faculty, staff and students. Call the Theatre box office at 318-342-1414 for your ticket reservations beginning Monday, Feb. 13.
