Football Fishing Derby teams ULM athletes and ULM police with local children
On Saturday, May 6, members of the ULM football team will partner with some of the area’s youngest fishermen at the ULM Football Fishing Derby, also supported by the ULM Police Department. This taste of sportsman’s paradise will run from 8 – 11 a.m. behind Breard and Harris Halls on Bayou DeSiard.
The event is designed for children 7 to 14 years of age. All children must be accompanied by an adult guardian with a limit of two children per adult. A sign-in sheet and waiver will be required. The total derby limit is 150 children.
The children will be divided into one of three categories: ages 7 to 9, ages 10 to 12, and ages 13 to 14. Members of the football team will assist each age group, except concerning landing/retrieving a fish until it touches the bank. The bayou will be taped off for each age group, and each group must fish within their section. Prizes will be awarded in each age group for the largest fish and for the most fish of any species.
Each child will receive a ULM Fishing Derby t-shirt for participating. Door prizes will be awarded for both parents and children. After the derby, there will be a free hot dog event held on campus. The football team and staff will be available for autographs and pictures with the children. The radio station K-104 will also be in attendance.
The event is free of charge. Participants may also park with no charge in the north parking lot of Ewing Coliseum. To register, contact the ULM Police Department at 318-342-5350.
