Recent Pow Wow Workshop Offers Professional Advice to Student Attendees
The Pow Wow 2005-2006 staff workshop occurred on September 17 in the ULM Department of Communication's Resource Center in Stubbs Hall.
Guest speakers were Tae Kim, professor in the department, and Lunzeta Cretien, reporter for The News-Star. Eight student journalists attended.
Cretien spoke on the importance of the interview process, focusing on both face-to-face and e-mail interviewing techniques.
Kim discussed the use of sources in news
stories and placement of
direct quotations to make news stories more interesting.
A movie on journalism, "Shattered Glass," was viewed and discussed from an ethical perspective.
Heather Amison, Monroe mass communications senior, is editor in chief of The Pow Wow. Co-managing editors are Isaac Henderson, Monroe mass communications senior, and Stephanie Williams, New Orleans kinesiology senior.
Pow Wow adviser Jarrett Reeves coordinated the program.
