City of Monroe to Give Gift Cards to ULM Students Affected by the Hurricanes
Students across the state are still coping with the effects of both hurricanes that swept across the gulf coast states this fall. Students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe are receiving help from various sources and Monday one of those sources will be the City of Monroe.
At 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo will present ULM with Wal-Mart Gift Cards. The event will take place on the 6th floor of the ULM Library in the media room. University officials, city officials and several ULM students will be on hand.
Students receiving the $25 gift cards (the city will give 100 cards to ULM) will be chosen by the Office of Financial Aid. Judy Cramer, Director of the Office of Financial Aid says students will be chosen based on need. Cramer said, "Students affected by both hurricanes are continually coming in to our offices seeking information about aid. Many of them do not realize they are eligible for federal or state aid. We help them locate sources that can be of assistance."
The Office of Financial Aid will give these gift cards to those who need immediate help.
