Fall Choral Concert Set for October 18
ULM will open the season with its Fall
Choral Concert on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. The free concert
will occur in the First United Methodist Church on Loop Road
in Monroe.
The ULM choirs will present a variety of choral selections. The
three choirs are conducted by Dr. Deborah Chandler, Director
of Choral Activities.
The Concert Choir of sixty-four singers is the premier, auditioned choral group at ULM. Their selections include "A Jubilant Song" by Norman Dello Joio, "In Remembrance" by Jeffery Ames (sung in memory of all who lost their lives in the wake of Hurricane Katrina), and three selections by Andre Thomas, "When the Trumpet Sounds", "I Dream a World," and "I'm Gonna Sing". The Concert Choir is accompanied by Deborah McClung-Guillory, assistant professor of music at ULM.
The University Chorale of fifty-two voices will sing two pieces from the Alice in Wonderland Series, "Father William" and "The Lobster Quadrille", a spiritual "Hush, Somebody's Calling my Name," and the finale of "The Gondoliers" opera ("Dance a Cachucha"). This choir is accompanied by Rhonda Weyhrich.
The Chamber Singers are an auditioned group of twenty-two singers accompanied by Lynette Murphy. This ensemble will sing an arrangement of "Precious Lord," a setting of "O Magum Mysterium," and the Shaker Tune "Simple Gifts."
