ULM Speech and Debate Team Wins In Houston
The University of Louisiana at
Monroe's Speech and Debate Forum continued its 2005-2006 season
by capturing multiple tournament championships at the University
of Houston Speech and Debate Tournament. The tournament, hosted
by the University of Houston, was held in Houston on Nov. 4-6.
The event featured some of the region's top universities representing
the states of Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.
The team was led by Isaac Henderson, who earned tournament championships
in Impromptu Speaking, Poetry Interpretation and Pentathlon.
Henderson teamed with Freshman Casey Miller to earn the
tournament championship in Dramatic Duo Interpretation. Dena
Boone finished as the top ranked speaker in debate competition
and earned tournament championships in After Dinner Speaking
and Persuasive Speaking. The team earned a total of 27 awards,
including the tournament championships in 6 of 7 events entered,
finishing 2nd in the seventh division.
The team will now prepare for the Louisiana State University
- Shreveport Speech and Debate Tournament, which will be held
at LSU-Shreveport on Nov. 11-13. Afterwards, the team is off
to Cameron University in December to complete the fall semester
of competition.
The ULM Speech and Debate Forum is open to any student, and no
