ULM Student One of Sixteen Selected for Internship
Thomas Savage, a junior computer science major at the University of Louisiana at Monroe was accepted for a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Pervasive and Mobile Computing in the spring. The internship is part of the National Science Foundation research program at Auburn University and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Savage was one of 16 students selected nationwide. The program will last 10 weeks during the summer.
The interns are initiated to research under the guidance of mentors who are faculty members in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. The interns collaborate with their mentors and are expected to contribute to the advance of pervasive and mobile computing. Major objectives are to promote interests in pervasive and mobile computing and develop the research skills of the students.
Mobile and pervasive computing is about using computing in every aspect of our lives while being completely unaware of its existence. At the REU site at Auburn University Savage will be invited to collaborate in the development of this technology, to propose new applications, and to explore new capabilities.
