ULM Scheduled to Host High School Flute Camp
The University of Louisiana at Monroe High School Flute Camp
is happening this week through Thursday (June 14-16) on the campus
of ULM. Twenty-two high school flutists from around the south
are attending this annual event. They will take part in workshops,
lessons, chamber groups, flute choir and more. Four ULM flutists
will act as counselor/coaches, and Dr. Sandra Lunte, associate
professor of music, at ULM, will run the camp, with the help
of Mr. Derle Long, director of bands at ULM.
Campers will participate in evening activities, which may be
of interest to the public, on Thursday at 8 p.m. Dr. Lunte and
Dr. Richard Seiler, associate professor of music and keyboard
division chair, will present an informal recital of music by
J.S. Bach, Hindemith, Taffanel and Copland.
In addition to the camp, on Friday at 8 p.m., Anthony Cortellini
will present an informal workshop/demonstration about jazz improvisation
using the flute. Mr. Cortellini is on the Louisiana Artist Roster
and has presented improvisation workshops in schools throughout
northeast Louisiana. He was also a winner of the Texas Flute
Society Jazz Masterclass Competition.
On Saturday at 4 p.m., the campers will
present a final concert.
All concerts are free, informal, open to the public and will
be in Biedenharn Recital Hall. For more information, call Dr.
Sandra Lunte at 342-1578.
