ULM to Offer Risk Management and Insurance College Student Mentorship Program in Spring 2006

In the spring of 2006, ULM will initiate the first Risk Management and Insurance College Student Mentorship Program in conjunction with the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU).

Mentors will be the CPCUs from the underwriting, claims and production (sales and marketing) aspects of the risk management and insurance business. They are among the top professionals in their field who have exhibited a commitment to professional and educational development by obtaining a CPCU.

These professionals will be paired with interested freshmen, sophomores and first semester juniors majoring in Risk Management and Insurance. The program will involve two sponsored lunches, periodic meetings and communications between the mentors and the students. Also included is a “shadow day,” where the student has an opportunity to learn more about the professional’s business.

Students who participate in the mentorship program are more likely to continue in and complete their degree in Risk Management and Insurance while being better prepared to evaluate career options upon graduation.

This innovative new program will be supported by the John and Marion Richters Risk Management and Insurance Mentorship Fund, which has been established through the ULM Foundation in memory and honor of ULM Provost Stephen Richters’s parents. An internationally renowned speaker and lifetime member of the insurance industry’s Million Dollar Roundtable, Ret. LT. Col. U.S. Marine Corps John E. Richters, Jr. and his wife of more than 60 years, Marion Powers Richters, were both highly successful insurance professionals who devoted their lives to the enhancement of the industry.

Anyone wishing to donate to the John and Marion Richters Risk Management and Insurance Mentorship Fund may make their gift as follows:
