ULM Announces Fall Sorority Recruitment Dates and Recruitment Counselors

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Panhellenic Council is hosting fall Sorority Recruitment on September 6th - 11th on the 7th Floor of the ULM Library. Recruitment allows potential members a chance to take a closer look at ULM's three National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities: Alpha Omicron Pi, Kappa Delta, and Phi Mu. This year for the first time ULM will be implementing one of the four new recruitment styles in accordance with the recently revised National Panhellenic Conference polices and procedures. Partially Structured Recruitment was chosen as the desired recruitment style because of the flexibility it allows the potential members and sorority women.

"No-Frills" is also being incorporated into the recruitment structure in an effort to eliminate high costs and time demands for decorating and entertainment. According to Kathleen Gillan, Coordinator of Greek Life, "The sorority women this year will be focusing on quality communication with the potential members and really selling the benefits of being Greek."

Greek organizations at ULM have traditionally been strong contributors to the improvement of the university and the surrounding community. Founded upon the principles of scholarship, leadership, community service and development of lifelong friendships, Greek organizations today still practice these fundamental principles in their pursuit of excellence.

Seven sorority women will play an integral part in this process. Susie Sparks, Panhellenic President, Lindsey Hill, Vice-President for Recruitment, Brie Dobbs, Panhellenic Secretary/Treasurer, Hanna Mae Long, Meagan Jenkins, Courtney Stapleton, and Alana Lolley have been chosen as Recruitment Counselors to help guide the potential members through the Recruitment Process. Recruitment Counselors disaffiliate themselves from their sororities in order to serve in a counselor capacity to the potential members.

A woman is eligible to participate in Panhellenic Formal Recruitment when she has enrolled as a full-time (at least 12 hours) student at ULM. The sororities at ULM require a minimum 2.4 high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) for incoming freshman and a 2.25 minimum for upperclassmen and transfer students with 12 or more credit hours.

he cost of the process is $45 before September 2nd and $55 thereafter. For more information or to request a recruitment application, please contact Susie Sparks, Panhellenic President, at sparksst@tribe.ulm.edu or Kathleen Gillan, Coordinator of Greek Life, at 318-342-5289 and gillan@ulm.edu.
