Pike Fraternity Receives Several Top-Notch Awards

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, recently returned to Monroe from the International Pike University Educational event in Memphis August 4-7th with several awards. A four-student delegation and one alumnus from the Eta Omicron Pike chapter at ULM attended the three-day conference.

Pike Alumni Advisor, Tommy Walpole (who is also the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at ULM) couldn't be happier for his fraternity, "As a Pike alumnus, I am thrilled with the awards. Every person who is associated with the Pike's at ULM, from students to alumni, to our many advisors, puts their heart and soul into it. These awards recognize the quality of young men who are Pikes at ULM and
how much they enjoy the fraternity. They continually represent themselves, Pike, and ULM with dignity and class."

Eta Omicron Chapter was one of thirty-six Pike chapters (there are 203 Pike chapters in North America) to receive the Chapter of Excellence Award for overall chapter programming. In order to receive this award, the fraternity must receive a rating of Excellent during the annual visit by the International Consultant. The consultant spends three to five days at each chapter location and conducts a complete review of all chapter programming areas which includes finances, pledge education, scholarship, athletics, continuing education, community service, risk awareness, etc. The rating of excellent received this year was the fraternity's 18th consecutive excellent rating for the Pikes at ULM spanning the last 17 years.

In the area of programming, the finance program was named as the best financial management program in all of Pi Kappa Alpha and their campus involvement program was named a top three program in that area.

The chapter won its ninth consecutive (and 10th overall) Phi Phi Kappa Alpha Award for supporting their Educational Foundation at the 100% donor level. Last year, each Pike at ULM donated $20 to the Phi Phi KA Club, the student donor club sponsored by the Pi Kappa Alpha Educational Foundation.

Daniel Crosser, president of the Pike chapter at ULM, received special recognition for attending his third Pike Educational Conference and Adam Cossey, who graduated from ULM in May and will begin law school at the University of Arkansas next week, received recognition for attending his fifth conference.

In the area of housing, the fraternity won the Most Outstanding House Improvement Project of the Year Award for their work in restoring their second house to its excellent condition. The Pikes spent over 600 hours and over $11,000 (all donated by their alumni) working on their second house known as 2-Pike.

The Pikes received a plaque for hosting their annual International Work Day event, which brings alumni back to the fraternity house each Spring for an all-day work/brotherhood day.

The board of alumni (Advisory Board), which advises the Pike Chapter at ULM, was named as a Top Three Finalist, for the fourth time, for Advisory Board of the Year.

The Pike Alumni Association won its eighth consecutive William R. Nester Award naming it again as one of the fraternity's top alumni associations. This is their ninth Nester win overall.

The Pikes capped off the conference by winning their eighth consecutive Robert Adger Smythe Award naming them as one of the fraternity's most outstanding chapters. This is their 12th Smythe win in the last 14 years. The streak of 7 consecutive wins is also the longest current winning streak in all of Pi Kappa Alpha. Other prominent winners included the University of Tennessee Volunteers and Florida State University to name a few.
