ULM, the United Way and the Food Bank Host Hurricane Katrina Food Drive at September 1, Football Game

In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the United Way of Northeast Louisiana and the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana are hosting a food drive tomorrow, September 1, at the ULM/United Way Kickoff Classic 2005. The game begins at 7 p.m.
To help make the food drive a success, everyone coming to the game is asked to bring with them "Cans and Cash."
Those attending the game may drop off these items at one of five locations with ULM student volunteers:

Both entrances on the West or home side of the stadium
1. Both entrances on the East or student side of the stadium
2. The Alumni Association tent located in the grove

What is needed: (1) pop-top cans of food and any ready to eat food - food that you can eat right out of the can or box (granola bars and/or individual servings of apple sauce, etc). We will not turn away any canned or dry good but we will not be able to accept any item in a glass jar or container; (2) we also need cash. All monies collected will be given to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana and they will be purchasing food for distribution to those in need.

If you reside in northeast Louisiana and want to know more about how you can help, please contact Denna McGrew at the local United Way office: 318-325-3869 / dmcgrew@uwnela.org
The University of Louisiana Monroe Athletics Department and the United Way of Northeast Louisiana have joined together to kickoff the 2005 seasons for both groups. The Kickoff Classic marks the beginning of the United Way's 2005 Annual Campaign and the 2005 ULM football season.

The game is scheduled to be televised on KTVE Region 10 and Cox Sports Television. Tickets for the game are available through the ULM Ticket Office at Malone Stadium (318-342-3ULM).

Topping off this signature community celebration will be special performances by country music star Lee Greenwood. Greenwood will sing the National Anthem to begin the game and perform at halftime with ULM's Sound of Today marching band, concluding with his signature song "God Bless the USA" and a fireworks extravaganza.
