Music Presents Wind Ensemble in Concert
The Division of Music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will present the Wind Ensemble in concert on Monday evening, April 25 at 7:30 pm in Brown Auditorium on the ULM campus. Derle R. Long conducts this Wind Ensemble. Guest conductors for this performance will be graduate students Ernest Moran and Bart Harrison, and Dr. John Stroube, Assistant Director of Bands at ULM. There is no admission charge for this performance.
The program will feature two works by English composer Gustav Holst. The performance will begin with "Moorside March," a movement from Holst's "Moorside Suite" which was arranged for wind band by Gordon Jacob in 1960. The other work by Holst will be the "Second Suite in F," composed in 1911 but not premiered until 1922. Also featured on this program will be "Les Pappillons," composed by Coby Lankester and arranged by Johann De Meij; the beautifully lyrical "October," composed by Eric Whitacre who is best known for his vocal compositions; and the "March from Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber," composed by Paul Hindemith and arranged by Keith Wilson. The concert will conclude with John Philip Sousa's "Riders for the Flag."
