Literary Theory Professor to Speak at ULM
On Monday, October 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Aviation Auditorium, room 134, on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Robert Con "R.C." Davis-Undiano, will speak about the state of literary theory and lead a discussion of Rudolfo Anaya's novel "Bless Me, Ultima." Everybody is invited to this free lecture and discussion.
Davis-Undiano teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in American Literature, American Studies, Chicano Studies, cultural studies, and literary and cultural theory at the University of Oklahoma.
Davis-Undiano is the executive director of the University of Oklahoma's international literary quarterly World Literature Today and holds the Walter and Dolores Neustadt Professorship in Comparative Literature. He began his multi-faceted career at OU in 1980, when he joined the Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1999, he was named executive director of World Literature Today, a leading forum for the discussion of recent literature worldwide.
Davis-Undiano has received numerous professional awards and honors, including University Continuing Education Association Teaching Awards in 2002 and 2003. He also was inducted as an honorary Fellow into the Golden Key National Honor Society in 1997. He has written or edited 13 books, has authored more than 50 professional articles, and currently serves as general editor of two book series.
Davis-Undiano earned a bachelor's degree in English at California State University, Hayward, and a master's degree in English and doctoral degree in American literature/literary theory from the University of California, Davis. While earning his doctorate, he was named a Fulbright Teaching Fellow of American Literature at the University of Pisa, Italy.
