University of Alabama Professor Presents Seminar at ULM
As part of ULM's Women's History Month seminar series, Dr. Kim Caldwell, assistant professor of biology at The University of Alabama, will present a seminar entitled, "Worms and Brains: C. elegans, Parkinson's and other Neurological Disorders." Kim, along with her husband, Guy, head up UA's "Worm Shack" lab, studying genes involved in lissencephaly (smooth brain) and epilepsy, as well as the function of torsins in protein aggregation, a common problem for patients with Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases.
The presentation will be on Monday March 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the Airway Sciences Auditorium. This seminar is sponsored by ULM's Office of Academic Affairs, and the Biology Club.
Caldwell is a former NIH (National Institute of Health) National Research Service Award Fellowship Recipient, and was a Revson Fellow of The Rockefeller University. She is the director of UA's Howard Hughes Medical Institute Rural Science Scholars Program and a fellow of the Blount Undergraduate Initiative where she teaches a course on the societal impact of the Human Genome Project.
