Freshman Courtney Armstrong Crowned Miss ULM 2004
The Winner of the title "Miss ULM" for 2004 is University of Louisiana at Monroe freshman pre-radiology technology major Courtney Armstrong. Armstrong also won the evening gown competition at the 51st Annual Miss ULM Pageant held at 7 p.m., March. 18, at the Monroe Civic Center.
Armstrong is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carey Armstrong from Winnsboro. During the talent competition, Courtney sang and performed on piano a she had written about abstinence. Abstinence was her platform. Courtney also won the People's Choice Award, where members of the audience voted on who they thought should win.
Other winners of the evening include 1st runner-up, Jessica Smith, an English Education junior from Monroe. She is the daughter of Mr. Alonzo Smith and the late Mrs. Annie Smith. Her talent was dance. Smith also won the talent award and the award for most ads sold. 2nd runner-up was Jennifer Adams, a marketing junior from Marrero. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith C. Adams. Her talent was vocal. Adams also took home the Miss Congeniality award.
Winning 3rd runner-up was Kari Lewis, a psychology junior from Houston, Texas. She is the daughter of Ms. Veronica Lewis. Her talent was dance. Lewis was also the interview award winner. 4th runner-up Michelle Mayer, a pre-pharmacy junior from Monroe is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mayer. Her talent was dance. Winner of the swimsuit competition was Sadie Simon, a pharmacy senior from Gueydan. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Simon. Her talent was piano.
Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening was Miss Louisiana 2003 Melissa Clark. Miss ULM 2003 Natalie Williams was there to say goodbye and to crown the 2004 winner.
10 contestants competed for the crown, scholarship money and the opportunity to be in the upcoming Miss Louisiana pageant, which will be held in Monroe in June. Contestants were judged in several categories including interview, talent, swimsuit and evening gown.
The winner of the Miss ULM Pageant receives full tuition and fees for fall 2004 and spring 2005 semesters. First runner-up receives full tuition for fall 2004 and spring 2005semesters. Second runner-up receives all fees paid for fall 2004 semester.
