A-HEC and ULM Team up This Summer
This summer, like many others, ULM is holding an Allied Health Day for the "A-HEC of a Summer" students. Students involved will get a first hand look at health programs offered by the university. Together, North Louisiana AHEC and ULM are working together to "Grow Our Own" health care professionals in north Louisiana.
There will be approximately 100 students from 13 parishes on campus Monday, June 14th beginning at 8:30 a.m. for a tour of the ULM facilities.
The A-HEC of a Summer Health Careers Volunteer Program is an opportunity for young adults, ages 15-18, to explore career opportunities by "hands on" participation as a volunteer in a local medical facility for 15 days or 100 volunteer hours. The project provides quality work-site education, experience and career direction to high school students, as well as interaction with health care professionals and educators who provide mentoring and experiential learning opportunities. Students receive high school elective credit for their participation. In addition to rotations in the clinical settings, the students also take field trips to various health care facilities and educational institutions.
