New Dean Dually Appointed for ULM College of Health Sciences and School of Pharmacy
Dr. F. Lamar Pritchard has been named dean for the College of Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Pritchard, currently Medical Science Manager at Bristol-Myers Squibb, is set to begin at ULM in August.
Pritchard is a fourth generation pharmacist with broad experience including retail and hospital pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, and as a faculty member at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy.
As a member of the Bristol-Meyers Squibb medical science team Pritchard developed the Key Opinion Leaders and Speakers in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. He was also responsible for the development and implementation of trials and pre-launch activities for several new drugs, and made medical presentations in the areas of cardiology, neurology, and endocrinology to audiences of professionals in internal medicine and family practice physicians.
Pritchard's appointment resulted from a national search conducted by a committee combining ULM faculty, administrators, and health professionals. ULM Provost Stephen Richters is pleased to have Pritchard on board, "We took our time and found the perfect individual for this position. We know Lamar's professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry allows him to bring a wealth of knowledge to us. Our students will benefit greatly from having him as their dean."
Chair of the search committee, Dr. Kenneth Clow, who is also Dean of the College of Business Administration, said Pritchard struck him as a smart and caring individual. "We were looking for someone who could relate to the students, yet could also take on the duties as the top administrator for the College of Health Sciences. Lamar has a good head on his shoulders and I feel confident that we have made the right decision."
At ULM, Pritchard will lead a program that produces more health professions graduates than any other institution of higher learning in Louisiana, with the exception of the medical schools, and enjoys a reputation as a major health sciences teaching and research center.
The College of Health Sciences also provides specialty services for the entire state through the services of the Louisiana Drug and Poison Information Center (handling over 80,000 calls per year), the Louisiana Institute of Toxicology, and affiliation with the State Department of Health and Hospitals' Medicaid program. For the Monroe area, patient care clinics are available on-campus through the programs in Communicative Disorders, Dental Hygiene and Occupational Therapy.
"I am very excited to be given this important opportunity
to lead the College of Health Sciences into a new era. Everyone
associated with the University of Louisiana at Monroe should
be very proud of all of the programs, which comprise the College
of Health Sciences. My job over the next several years will be
to continue to strengthen our academic programs and curricula,
expand our important research base, and to ensure that our programs
and graduates are providing the highest possible level of health
care to enhance and improve the lives of the citizens of the
great state of Louisiana. My family and I are also excited to
be relocating to the Monroe area. Everyone that we have met has
been very warm and friendly. It seems to be the perfect community
to raise a family, " said Pritchard.
Pritchard earned his Ph. D. in Pharmacy at the University of
Georgia and his B.Sc. in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia
School of Pharmacy in Athens, Georgia.
He and his wife Judy have been married for 24 years. The Pritchards have two children, Matt, 16, and Rebecca, 14.
Pritchard's appointment is pending approval from the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
