ULM Speech Team Earns Awards at American Forensics Association Championship
The ULM Speech and Debate Team continued its successful season by winning awards at the American Forensics Association National Championship Tournament, which was held at California State University, Long Beach on April 2nd 5th. The tournament featured the nation's top 850 students, representing 113 colleges and universities from throughout the nation.
Team captain Isaac Henderson said, "ULM's performance at this competition helped us stand out against the nation's best." Henderson finished 6th in Dramatic Interpretation, and tied for 25th in both Poetry Interpretation and Oral Interpretation. Also, in the Public Speaking competition, ULM"s Tara Bouchie tied for 25th place.
The team is now preparing for the National Forensics Association National Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by Western Illinois University, April 15th -19th. "This is a starting point, not an end," noted head coach Bob Alexander. "Isaac and Tara's performances this week solidified our status as one of the frontrunners for the team national championship at the N.F.A. championship next week."
The ULM Speech and Debate Forum is also actively seeking members for the 2004-2005 season. The team is open to any undergraduate student, with no prior experience needed.
