ULM Cheerleaders to Progress to Nationals
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Cheerleaders have qualified
at the top of their division for the 2004 Universal Cheerleaders
Association's College Cheerleading National Championship which
is broadcast on ESPN and ESPN 2. This event will be held in Orlando,
Fla., January 16-19.
After submitting a video entry tape, the ULM cheerleaders placed
first in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Small Co-Ed
Division I final competition. The ULM Cheerleaders have received
an automatic bid into the finals. The bid is a paid bid for 16
members and one coach to travel to Florida for the competition.
The Cheerleaders have been raising money for the squad to take
this trip. The squad has a total of 24 members and two coaches.
The cheerleaders are still raising the additional amount of money
to attend this competition. We would like to express our gratitude
to our sponsors thus far; Dr. Kerry L. Anders' office, Kim's
Kloset, Rustico, Unique Trophies, La Bella Vita, Perry Development
of Monroe LLC, and EPCO.
A girls "4" stunt group has also qualified for the
finals in the partner stunt division. Lori Chervenak, Ashley
Springfield, Kelly Patterson, and Treva Bankston sent in an entry
tape and placed 12th out of 40 groups. The top 20 groups were
invited to attend the Partner Stunt Final Competition.
This will be ULM's first year ever to compete in UCA's National
Competition. ULM Cheerleaders and are: Treva Bankston, Carley
Carter, Lori Chervenak, Nick Gaspard, Tori Jenkins, Samantha
Jones, Alex Kain, Crystal Kelley, Rebecca LeBlanc, Nathan LeCloux,
Josh Lee, Hayley Leone, Crystal Lett, Tiffany Luse, R.B. Martin,
Cassie Olin, Billie Sue Roe, Robin Samuels, Ashley Springfield,
Katie Sylve, Chris Trull, Jamie Ventrella, and Holly Wood.
The Cheerleaders are coached by Jennifer Hyde, Coordinator of
Spirit Groups, and Trey Griffin.
