ULM Dean Chairman of Upcoming Race for the Cure©
Carlos Fandal, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has been named the chairperson for the Race for the Cure©. The Northeast Louisiana Race for the Cure©, sponsored by the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen foundation, will be held in Monroe on Sept. 13. This year, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Komen Race for the Cure®, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. Over 1.5 million people are expected to participate in the race this year. Fandal says the race is an important event for the whole community, "It raises the awareness of the need to be vigilant about breast cancer. It's also a change for the community to see cancer survivors running the race and living a healthy life after having the disease. I encourage everyone to come out and show your support."
Proceeds from the Komen Race for the Cure® Series help
fund important breast cancer research as well as breast health
initiatives on a local level. Several groups from ULM, including
students, will be participating in the race. The deadline for
team registration is Sept. 9, and the registration fee is $15.
All participants receive a T-shirt and breast cancer survivors
will be recognized if they so choose. For more information on
