ULM Announces New Endowed Chair in Gerontology
Dr. Carl Renold has been hired as the Joseph A, Bedienharn
Endowed Chair in Gerontology for the summer. Dr. Renold's specialization
is gerontology, health services and distance education. For
the past seven years he has been employed at the University of
Southern California (USC) and California State University (Cal
State) Fullerton. One of Dr. Renold's responsibilities at USC
and Cal State is the development of courses for offering through
distance education Dr. Renold's assignment at ULM is to lead
the faculty in offering a portion of the master's degree in gerontology
by means of distance education. This primarily will be through
the adaptation of existing courses to the Internet. Dr. Renold
has been working with the ULM administration, Louisiana Board
of Regents, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
to secure approval for expanding the degree offering by distance
education. "We are very fortunate to have someone of this
caliber to lead us in the expansion of our degree offering. He
is an excellent planner, very knowledgeable about processes and
procedures, and enjoys sharing his expertise with the faculty,"
says Dr. Welch, Head of the Gerontology Program at ULM.
