ULM powerlifters win weight class
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Power Lifting Team took home several wins after their weekend meet in Baton Rouge. The State Championship meet was held on Sat., Jan. 11, and Sun. Jan. 12, 2003.
ULM senior lifter Detria Johnson broke the Junior American record in squats. Coach David Stanley says she barley missed her last squat at 370 on a technicality. Johnson also won her weight class. ULM freshman lifter Danielle Miller won her weight class as well.
Freshmen ULM lifters Jerry Ross and Jonathan Nicholson both won their weight classes. Ross also won best lifter in the teenage division.
The team will compete again at a state meet on Sat., Feb. 8 at Louisiana Tech University.
Miller and sophomore Paula Ramirez will be lifting at the USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Womens National Powerlifting Championships to be held Jan. 24-26 in Killeen, Texas.
