Inaugural "Bumpin' on the Bayou" A Success
The College of Business at the University of Louisiana at Monroe hosted its first ever "Bumpin' on the Bayou" fundraiser on Friday, February 7, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the West Monroe Convention Center.
Many community business leaders as well as ULM faculty and staff were there to help kick-off the event with over 100 people at the convention center. LC Smoove performed live music. Food and drink were also provided for the guests.
One highlight of the evening was the silent auction, which took place from 7 to 9 p.m. Items from around the community were donated for the auction. Items auctioned included a digital camera, handmade throw blankets, and dinner with ULM President James Cofer and his wife Deborah. Proceeds from ticket sales and auctioned items go to ULM's College of Business.
Dean of the College of Business at ULM, Kenneth Clow, said he was very happy with this first-time event.
"We are extremely pleased with the turn-out and support of our corporate sponsors who helped underwrite our expenses: Entergy, Lincoln Agency, Marsala Beverage, City of West Monroe, Strauss Interests, B & N Marine and Le Petite Fleurs among others. We appreciate everyone's support," said Clow.
"This is a chance for alumni, faculty, business people and the community to mingle in a fun environment. About one-third of the College of Business faculty is here and we anticipate next year to be even bigger and better," added Clow.
ULM Graduate and member of the College of Business Advisory Board, Mary Ann Newton, helped organize the fundraiser.
"We wanted to do something different as a fundraiser. Dr. Clow said, 'Let's do something fun and give people something for their money.' For a first time event, I think this is very promising, it's a learning experience for us," said Newton.
Newton also said Dr. and Mrs. Cofer being there shows a great sign of support from the administration.
"They are seen all over the community and it makes it so much better for people to know they have that support. Cofer is an inspiration to this community, " said Newton.
The College of Business hopes to make "Bumpin' on the Bayou" an annual event and major fundraiser.
