"An Unlucky Number of Paintings" exhibit on Display at Bry
The Bry Art Gallery at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is currently showing "An Unlucky Number of Paintings," a one-person exhibtion by Monroe artist Kristy Caldwell.
A recent graduate of the University of New Orleans, Caldwell is showing 13 oil and mixed media works on canvas, plywood and masonite. The artist has included some portraiture in this collection, but her dominant concept is the abstraction of landscape and figures in landscape imagery. In these works, a diverse quality of representationalism exists with some of the landscape images remaining relatively close to their perceived sources while most expand the painter's talents into unique compositions only reminiscent of their original subject matter.
On Monday, Feb. 10, an evening reception for the artist and her exhibited works was held in the university gallery. Ms. Caldwell will deliver an exhibition closing gallery talk to ULM students on Thursday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m.
The Bry Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
