ULM Power Lifters Prepare for Nationals
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Power Lifting Team will compete for Collegiate Nationals in St. Louis, Missouri on April 12th and 13th.
The team members, weight class, classification and hometown are: Carley Carter, 105, sophomore, Jena; Jacqueline Cain, 105, senior, Foley; Paula Ramirez, 123, senior, Sweeny, Texas; Danielle Stevenson, 123, sophomore, West Monroe, Kelly Roulaine 148, freshman, Monroe; Detria Johnson, 165/181, senior, Natchitoches; Danielle Miller, 198, freshman, Monroe; Matt Murrow, 181, freshman, Monroe; Jerry Ross, 181, freshman, Monroe; Jonathon Nicholson, 198, freshman, Forrest; R.B. Martin, 220, Benton; Darren Smith, 275, freshman, West Monroe.
Female power lifters Team President, Paula Ramirez, and Team Vice President, Detria Johnson, both earned All-American honors last year. They each placed second in their weight classes at Nationals. In Nov. 2002, Ramirez placed first, Danielle Miller placed second, and Roulaine placed third at the University Cup Meet, which is a competition between all Louisiana schools and the University of Texas.
In January, Jerry Ross and Detria Johnson each won their weight classes at the state championships and earned Best Lifter Honors and Danielle Miller and Jonathon Nicholson each won their weight classes. In February Jacqueline Cain, Carley Carter, Danielle Stevenson, Matt Murrow and Darren Smith all qualified for the upcoming Collegiate Nationals. ULM's Power lifting team is in its second year.
