ULM Studio Students Art Competition Now Showing
The Bry Art Gallery in the Division of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is currently showing the Sixth Annual ULM Studio Students Art Competition.
Any currently enrolled student at the University was eligible to submit in competition up to three works in any studio medium. Submissions were jurored by the entire art faculty who curated the exhibition. Local artist and ULM alumnus, Arlene Cason, served as awards judge.
Ms. Cason presented the Gretchen Masur Dean Best in Show cash award to Julian Floyd of Strong, Ark., in recognition of her clay freestanding sculpture group titled "Waiting for the Healing Process". Receiving the Kitty Degree cash award was Crystal Cardenas of Tulsa, Okla., for her oil on canvas painting tiled "Benight". Awards of Merit and gift certificates to Imagemax were received by Sarah Davidson of Monroe in painting, Jessica Head of Grayson in sculpture and Kathleen Tumey of Monroe in Painting.
Other student artists with works accepted in the competition were Renee Chance, Jennifer Clark, Nolan Clark, Faith Hanks, Melissa Lee, April Parks, Phillip Peyton, Rebekah Savage, Michele Smith, Jessamine Vermillion, Coby Winn, and Jackie Woods.
These awards were presented at a reception at the Gallery on April 11, sponsored by Kappa Pi, honorary art fraternity. Also announced at the opening were the winners of the Beverly Jean Marvin Art Scholarships for 2003-2004. Receiving these awards were Jennifer Clark of Mer Rouge, Melissa Lee of River Ridge and April Parks of Rayville.
The Competition will be on view through May 7. Bry Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
