ULM junior Rachel Lowe named Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe
Winner in the Evening Gown, Swimsuit and People's Choice Competitions, University of Louisiana at Monroe Junior, Rachel Lowe, also took home the crown. The 49th annual Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe Pageant, sponsored by the ULM Campus Activity Board, was held Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at 7:00 p.m. at the Monroe Civic Center.
Rachel Lowe, 20, of Shreveport, is majoring in Speech Communications and Theatre at ULM. Lowe performed a magic show as her talent in the Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe Pageant. Lowe is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Lowe.
Angela Cruz Hillman, general studies major at ULM, was named 1st Runner-up. Hillman also won the talent competition with her piano performance.
Lakesha Bennett, Broadcast News major at ULM, was named 2nd Runner-up.
Seven contestants competed for the crown, scholarship money
and the opportunity to compete in the next Miss Louisiana pageant,
which is held in Monroe in June. Contestants were judged in several
categories including interview, talent, swimsuit and eveningwear.
The interview consists of 30% of the total score, talent 40%,
swimsuit 15% and evening wear 15%.
The winner of the title "Miss University of Louisiana at
Monroe" receives full tuition and fees for fall 2002 and
spring 2003 semesters. First runner-up receives full tuition
for fall 2002 and spring 2003 semesters. Second runner-up receives
all fees paid for fall 2002 semester.
