Chautauqua Nexus at ULM to discuss Karate
On Friday, Feb. 28th, 2002, the Chautauqua Nexus will talk
about "Karate: Reality vs. Hollywood." Karate instructor
Bob Allen will be the featured speaker. Allen will discuss how
traditional karate is a marshal art that most Americans know
little, if anything, about. In his presentation, Allen will explore
and contrast Hollywood versions of karate with "real,"
more traditional karate. He will also give an audio-visual presentation,
as well as hands-on presentation with traditional dress, equipment,
and movements.
These weekly meetings are informal conversations attempting to
connect people of all ages who are interested in intellectual
and cultural exchanges. The Chautuaqua Nexus meets every week
on the second floor of the Student Union Building on the ULM
campus (unless otherwise noted) beginning at 4:30 on Fridays
or Saturdays. There are no requirements and everyone is invited
to come. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Visitors are welcome
to make a small donation for refreshments.
