ULM's Chautauqua Nexus to discuss The Bible
On Thursday, Feb. 7th, the Chautauqua Nexus discusses "Believing the Bible: Given or Option?" On hand to host the talk will be Father Walter Baer, and Father Whit Stodghill. The group will meet in the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Student Union Building at 6:30 p.m.
Ed Brinson, English Instructor at ULM and organizer of the Chautauqua Nexus says, "Both debaters agree that the Bible is in some sense authoritative. However, Fr. Stodghill says the Bible's authority is not found in it's literal accuracy with regard to science, history, or even morality. It's authority is found in dialogue with the believing community whereby it becomes God's ongoing revelation. Fr. Baer says the Bible does indeed reflect an accurate record of God's actions in history and His dealings with humanity. Scripture is inspired and for Christians revels the truth about Jesus, who is the ultimate source of the Bible's authority."
These weekly meetings are informal conversations attempting to connect people of all ages who are interested in intellectual and cultural exchanges. The Chautuaqua Nexus meets every week on the second floor of the Student Union Building on the ULM campus (unless otherwise noted) beginning at 4:30 on Fridays or Saturdays. There are no requirements and everyone is invited to come. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Visitors are welcome to make a small donation for refreshments.
All media welcome.
