ULM Fall 2002 Commencement Speaker from Louisiana Tech University

Dr. Daniel Reneau, President of Louisiana Tech University, will be the commencement speaker for the Fall 2002 Graduates of the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The graduation ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum this Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002.

Reneau is a graduate of Tech in Chemical Engineering, with a masters in Chemical Engineering. He received his Doctorate in 1966 from Clemson University. He has published approximately 80 technical papers in books and journals, edited five books, attended over 100 international meetings and conferences, and established Tech's Biomedical Engineering Department. The department became the fifth accredited department for its undergraduate curriculum in the United States, and the Ph.D. program was awarded a commendation of excellence by the Board of Regents.

In 1980, he extended his leadership endeavors to the administration of the University's academic program as the Vice President for Academic Affairs of Tech. In this capacity, he was chief academic officer to some 400 faculty housed in six colleges and three professional schools offering some 160 different programs. During his tenure, every major program with an accrediting agency was accredited, and he was instrumental in establishing the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science.

On Feb. 20, 1987, the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities selected Dr. Reneau as President of Tech.

While accomplishments have been many during Dr. Reneau's tenure as President of Tech, some of the most notable include the addition of several doctoral programs, implementation of selective admissions, successful completion of a $50,000,000+ Quest for Quality Fund Raising Campaign, achievement of 1-A football status, establishment of an Institute for Micromanufacturing and a Technology Transfer Center. The Institute is a world-class facility for the design, fabrication, metrology, assembly and testing of micro-structures, devices, and systems. Also, since October 1990, Tech has been listed in U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 200+ national universities.

In the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area, Dr. Reneau is a member of the Committee of 100, Member of CERT, a board member of the Biomedical Research Foundation, and a board member of InterTech.
